The View Committed option in Order Entry and the View Committed Inventory option in Catalog Maintenance and Inventory Maintenance allows for viewing “committed” inventory for a
catalog item throughout the system. It was designed to work for items such as
pad, which may not be assigned until the job is ready to ship, but will work on
any material. In the instance of pad, you may know how much inventory you have
and how much of that is assigned, but you wouldn’t know the total amount of all
the job lines waiting to be assigned. When you click on this option the system
will prompt a Committed Inventory box
as follows:
The Branch (1) field will default to the current Branch and only display lines/quantities for that Branch, however, you can use the dropdown arrow to select another Branch, or All Branches, as in the example above. The Committed (2) field displays totals for just lines that have a blank status (not assigned to any material or PO) for the selected Catalog Item. The Assigned (3) field displays totals for just lines with Job Costed status. The Build Order (4) field displays totals for just lines entered in the Build Order Processing module, which will only apply to those customers using that upgrade module. The PO Reserved (5) field displays totals for lines tied to an Open PO in the system. And finally, the Available to Sell (6) field displays the total available inventory minus what is assigned and minus what is “committed,” based on Branch selection, therefore, it is not uncommon to see a negative number sometimes if you are in an oversell situation on a product. Pad is a great example of an item repeatedly in oversell status. If you right-click on a line in the screen above, the system will prompt the following: Enter Job. This will allow you to access the Job from this screen.
